In the Orquesta Aragón made its first journey to Havana, and in Lay changed the personnel to suit his own ideas. It was around this time that the danzón began to fade, and the cha-cha-cha to gain popularity. Flautist was now Rolando Lozano and, later, Richard Egües. Pepe Olmo began singing along with the director Rafael Lay.

This CD, Heart of Havana (on Sony BMG's 'Latin Originals' label) appears to be a reprint of an LP (12 tracks, old RCA Victor logo on the cover). It has the same cover as The Heart of Havana volume 1 in the BMG Tropical Series, which was remastered from the original master tapes in the s. That was a fantastic album and it's possible 4/5(2).

Rafael Lay distinguished himself as an outstanding violinist, and the band gradually filled out: after ten years, the Orquesta was a clear match for the best bands in Havana. The capital, however, operated as a closed shop, nevertheless Orquesta Aragón did succeed in it in an unexpected way.
